DIGITAL DETOX - EVEN IF ONLY FOR AN HOUR.
We explore a few key ways to unplug and reset with MO+ (yes, massage, acupuncture and osteopathy are all in the mix).
We are so accustomed to living in our screens - it’s become part and parcel of living in the 21st century. Whether it is your phone, or your computer screen, the seamless integration of technology into our lives has happened so artfully, it feels less and less of a joke when you hear yourself throw away the casual comment - “perhaps I was just born this way”.
The truth is… you weren’t and neither were we. While technology was, in some way, shape or form, a part of our entrance into this world, looking down the tip of our nose at an “always on” screen certainly was not. While technology gives us so much, it also takes it away just as swiftly.
Those moments of self-reflection, mindfulness or quite simply, just being, can be taken away so swiftly with the sound of a “ping” or the vibration of our device. And while we are not hear to say, “put down your phone”, with any real sense of permanence, we are going to give you some tips on how to take five (or sixty) when you need it most. Did someone say remedial massage?
Do It For Your Skin
Now we are not going to profess to be experts on the impacts of phone light emitted from our screens on the skin. However, it has been found that the HEV (high energy visible) light from your phone can damage the natural production of elasticity, collagen and hyaluronic acid in your skin. While we hate the term anti-ageing, there are ways to slow down the clock on the changes in the skin’s texture that can be brought on by a myriad of environmental factors.
So put down your phone and enjoy a new kind of light therapy - welcome to MO+ LED Light Therapy. This exciting new addition to the MO+ services utilizes a combination of blue, red, and near-infrared (not visible to the naked eye) light emitting diodes (LEDs). Much like the photosynthesis process of plants, this type of light therapy works to improve and increase the cellular metabolism, helping in the repair, rejuvenation and replenishment of the skin.
While lying under the light is therapeutic in itself (we won’t blame you if you start to nod off), the LED Light Therapy treatment is simultaneously working to stimulate the production of collagen, while working to improve the skin’s overall texture and firmness. The impacts of light therapy are cumulative, working over time to assist in the repair of damaged skin.
So lie back, take a deep breath and let the distant reverberation of your phones vibrate mode drift away. This is your time to relax and let MO+ LED Light Therapy work wonders on your skin.

Do It For Your Spine
It’s no secret that being hunched over your computer for eight hours a day is impacting your posture – think rolled shoulders, strained neck… and yes, that dull aching pain is likely a direct result of poor ergonomics at your office desk.
It’s time to rethink how you are sitting at work and is there a better option for your seating arrangement. Have you looked into the option of a standup desk, or, ironically, are you taking note each time said technology tells you to “stand up” and “breathe”? These are simple ways to really take note of what your body is doing throughout the day.
While lifestyle choices and general day-to-day awareness around what your body is doing and the way it is sitting will certainly aid in the betterment of your overall wellbeing. However taking time away from your computer to actively addressing what is happening in your body could be said to be your sweet spot. Enter osteopathy.
With our trained osteopaths here at the Bondi Junction clinic, we work to better support the overall health and wellbeing of your body (and mind), while ensuring that you don’t reap the repercussions of years at a computer screen. With this in mind, we recommend looking at the option of a weekly to fortnightly osteopathic treatment. While many will only revert to an osteopath if they are in pain, the ongoing health benefits of this therapy support in the overall health of the body’s nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. Osteopathy, in many ways, takes a holistic approach to understanding the body’s entire structure and various functions, looking at how certain ailments - whether it be muscular or skeletal - might be being impacted by surrounding tissues and the like. With a focus on the joints, muscles and spine, this manual medicine sees both diagnosis and treatment carried out by the healing hands of our practitioners.

Do It For Your Soul
So while the repercussions of being too “digitally on” are without a doubt taking a toll on the physicality of the body, let’s stop and take a moment to think about what it does to the mind. In the same way that being around a large group of people for a prolonged period can be energy zapping, so too can being too digitally available. The constant influx of information from our devices - think: messages, emails, Instagram feeds, Facebook highlights - means our brains are switched to overdrive close to 14-16 hours per day.
This is where MO+ Bondi Junction comes in. While so many people will come to us with cricks and pains, longing for a cure all massage, it’s integral that you start to build a sustaining wellbeing program for yourself - one focused on the relaxing benefits of massage that can aid both the mind and the body.... even when both are feeling relatively well. Having a massage - whether therapeutic, remedial or deep tissue - while you are feeling in good physical health is an impactful means of not only sustaining your physical health, but also heightening and prolonging your mental well-being too. Whether it be before you face the day, or after you sign out, massage has long been shown to improve the wellness of the mind.
Taking what may feel like an indulgent 60 minutes to yourself really isn’t as indulgent as you might think. Let your mind recover and switch off, while your body thanks you too.
