Reverse Aging - what is it and what you should know about it.
The reverse aging or anti-aging movement is a social movement devoted to eliminating or reversing aging, or reducing the effects of it…according to Wiki.
The movement focuses attention towards the possibilities of life extension with an interest in nutrition and lifestyle techniques as well as technology to ameliorate the effects of it. Some proponents say humanity can defeat aging through the uses and advancements of technology. Whilst others argue the complicated human body has the ability to indefinitely repair itself.
Where ever you sit on this conversation, it is nothing short of controversial. New techniques and understandings show that the right lifestyle choices however can actually reverse biological age and make an old organism young again.
Have you heard of glutathione, NAD+, IV Vitamin Drip Therapy or LED Light therapy ? Here’s a taster of the most talked about techniques and technologies for reverse-aging and how they may influence looking and feeling younger.
Increasing our healthspan with NAD+?
Lifespan is the number of years someone lives from birth until death, while healthspan is the number of years someone is healthy without chronic and debilitating disease - not just alive.
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide NAD+ is a critical coenzyme central to metabolism, found in all living cells and is essential for cell health and energy. First discovered in 1906, NAD+ has since been said to be hard at work in your body in hundreds of metabolic processes - assisting with turning nutrients into energy, repairing DNA and aging. However, as we age, the levels of NAD+ drastically decline.
As NAD+ is important for mitochondrial maintenance and gene regulation, both of which are important for preventing cell aging it could be said by maintaining high levels of NAD+, we may keep our mitochondria healthy avoiding age-related diseases. In other words, without high levels of NAD+ our body may not function as well as it could, or less effective at cellular repair and leading to slower metabolic rates.
The importance of NAD+, therefore is its ability to help other beneficial molecules do their jobs in your body.
Healing LED Light Therapy
Phototherapy, or LED light therapy, is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties and is used in a variety of ways across many medical fields, including in more therapeutic environments for skin health and anti-aging. Research has shown that light therapy can work to increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, kill acne bacteria, decrease inflammation, reverse signs of sun damage, improve skin tone as well as overall texture and clarity. Light therapy has also been shown to increase the natural production of collagen and elastin in the skin, working to create a more radiant and youthful complexion.
In essence, improving and increasing the cellular metabolism of the skin, helping in the repair, rejuvenation and replenishment.
How does it work ? Specific wavelengths of light energy, when properly absorbed, up-regulates compromised or damaged cells. The light (photons) energy is absorbed by photoacceptors in the mitochondria and used to create adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The ATP produced then stimulates various metabolic processes which can result in the repair and regeneration of cell and tissue components. Blue, red and near-infrared are the most commonly used wavelengths in LED phototherapy. These specific wavelengths are well researched and scientifically proven to produce therapeutic benefits. Blue penetrates through the epidermis and is known to kill P.acnes bacteria. Red penetrates into the dermal layer and has been shown to enhance collagen and elastin production through photo-biostimulation of fibroblasts. Near-infrared penetrates deepest and increases micro-circulation (tissue repair), decreases inflammation and attenuates pain.
Glutathione, The Mother of all Antioxidants
Glutathione is an organic compound made up of the amino acids glycine & cysteine as well as glutamic acids. It is produced by the liver and involved in many body processes but is best known for repairing damaged cells in the body.
A molecule naturally produced by the body, glutathione can be given intravenously, topically, as an inhalant or through oral supplementation. Often called the mother of all antioxidants, glutathiones chemical composition has the ability to cleanse free radicals and toxins from our system as well as regulating and enhancing the activity of other antioxidants.
Glutathione may provide health benefits which include reducing oxidative stress to the body and may contribute to assisting with many other health related conditions including; improving skin tone, assisting with liver function and minimising the signs of aging. It’s one of the most important molecule you need to stay healthy and prevent disease.
