My Wellness Story - Your Self-Care Calling, Is Not Always About You.
Some Personal Background
I confess, I’m a natural wellness and self-care addict from way back. I’ve drank soy milk since the 90’s and perhaps even before some of my clients were even born. I remember not going to café’s because they didn’t offer soy milk for my latte. When soy eventually became popular, the café’s that stocked it charged an extra 50 cents for the privilege of adding it to my coffee. Today in Bondi Junction, you can ask for soy, almond, rice, skinny, half, Zymil and if you have any intolerance or deeply personal belief it can be catered for. I drink decaf soy lattes now, what can I say, I like the flavour but not staying awake half the night.
I don’t remember a time when wellness and self-care both physically and emotionally wasn’t important to me. Not long after the year 2000 rolled over I started working for an events company who was the Australian promoter for alternative thought leaders like Deepak Chopra and Tony Robbins, Louise Hay and Wayne Dwyer to name a few. People who were really leading the revolution in alternate thought philosophies and changing the wellness paradigm. They inspired me, and to be meeting them and working along-side them was a dream come true. I worked on big Expos like the MindBodySpirit Festival for several years and at one point even taught meditation on weekends. The event industry was my passion and ticket to learning more and more about wellbeing and emotional health.
I guess you get the idea by now, I was big on alternative natural health. By 2010 I had not been to see a GP for close on 20 years, preferring to opt for natural medicines that resonated with me. My dream was to open a Wellness Centre that offered a curation of my favourite wellness practices, treatments and products. By late 2007 that journey had begun when my brother and I opened our clinic Massage & Osteopathy.
On a Professional Level
My functional strengths are in business management and marketing. I have a Diploma in Accounting and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, with a Major in Marketing. I initially spent 5 years working as an accountant, 3 of those with the renowned Unilever, 1 year in their Trade Marketing Department (and yes, thank you to Unilever for paying for my degree) and then the next 15 so years within Sales and Marketing working with some of the most prominent brands in the world. At one point, working as a business consultant to Levis Strauss Jeans re-engineering their business processes at three manufacturing sites in the US - each site with over 2000 employees.
A corporate business background had taught me that the best way to build a successful business was in consultation and collaboration. I don’t like doing things by halves, I like to be all in and what better than starting not one but two businesses just before the GFC hit in 2008. Not only did Gary my brother and I open up our fledgling clinic doors in 2007 but Michael my husband and I founded Bondi Gym that very same year. We managed the growth of Bondi Gym through an extremely difficult and competitive fitness industry environment for the next 10 years and then I turned my attention towards building the wellness clinic of my dreams. Within a period of two years we went from 2 therapist to 8 and a re-brand from Massage & Osteopathy to what you know today as MO+.
Serendipity and Life Path
MO+ has been a 25 year passion and dream in the making. And whilst I worked for many great companies and literally travelled the world with my work, not all those experiences were wonderful. On the contrary, I had some real ass’s for bosses as well as those really fabulous ones that helped shaped the person I became. Thankfully I was able to learn enormously from each and every one of those experience, perceived good or bad. Thank you corporate world for the many highs along with the lows, and thank you amazing spiritual leaders for giving us all the knowledge and confidence to know we are always on the right path, no matter if the experience seemed good or bad at the time.
Many businesses during COVID have been under extreme pressures and many have closed. It is not just luck that we, as in MO+, are able to open our doors to customers again. I am in abundant appreciation of all my previous personal life and work experiences for that. For offering me an opportunity to grow and learn indispensable skills that many years later would be the cornerstone to bringing MO+ back out of a global crisis and COVID hibernation, with all our Wellness Practitioner and loyal clients intact as before.
I am enormously proud and honoured to be working along-side gifted, dedicated and caring Natural Health Practitioners the likes of which we have at MO+. Importantly, I am proud of an unwaveringly passionate desire to follow my life path of inspired thoughts, to curate a range of meaningful wellness and self-care products and services that inspire, and present natural health and wellbeing as an everyday staple for those who pursue good living.
